What is the Deutschlandstipendium?
The Deutschlandstipendium (national scholarship scheme) is the biggest ever public-private collaborative venture in the educational arena. It supports students and university entrants whose track record indicates outstanding performance both in their studies and subsequent career. The concept of performance underpinning the scholarship is deliberately couched in broad terms: good grades and academic performance are part of it, as is the willingness to assume responsibility, or else successfully overcoming obstacles in one’s own life and educational journey. The scholarship holders receive a grant that is unrelated to income, half of which is provided by the Federal Government and the other half by private donors. The donors are businesses as well as private individuals, foundations and associations.
In contributing, the sponsors are bequeathing some of their success to future generations, thereby joining a network of success for Germany – for tomorrow’s talent. In so doing they are setting an example of a scholarship culture that secures Germany’s long-term leadership position. At the same time, the Deutschlandstipendium affords the opportunity for better connectivity between the economy and science, to their mutual advantage.
